Hosting an AmeriCorps Member

To help expand the capacity of organizations to achieve and sustain extraordinary efforts in their communities, The Hub serves as an Intermediary AmeriCorps VISTA Sponsor – this means that we help organizations place individual VISTAs in their community for 3 year project cycles.

AmeriCorpsVISTA members help build capacity in communities for a low-cost administrative fee. Hosting a VISTA means bringing on a full-time volunteer who is dedicated to building the capacity and sustainability of a project, all while receiving training and resources from AmeriCorps VISTA and the WV Community Development Hub.

How Hosting an AmeriCorps Member Makes a Difference

AmeriCorps Members who serve in our VISTA program are on the front lines of building capacity in communities from Rainelle to Wheeling, and everywhere in between. Last year, our members recruited and managed over 1,000 volunteers across the state to serve over 4,000 hours in projects ranging from planting and garden maintenance in Morgantown, to grocery delivery for community members in need in Boone County, to participating in the formation of a statewide community development network. Every year, our members collectively leverage hundreds of thousands of dollars within their communities through grant writing, fundraising, creating sponsorship programs, and sourcing in-kind donations. Hosting an AmeriCorpsVISTA can help your community unlock these resources too!

Hosting an AmeriCorps Member is Ideal for…

…community organizations, faith-based organizations, or municipal governments who have a specific project in mind that needs assistance to grow it’s capacity.

You will need the capacity to provide regular supervision to the member during their placement, as well as a space and supplies for the member to work. The Hub also asks our sites to pay an annual administrative fee to host an AmeriCorps VISTA member.

We help our AmeriCorpsVISTA Subsites:

  • Apply for a VISTA project through the AmeriCorps Mid-Atlantic Regional Office
  • Recruit members to serve as AmeriCorpsVISTAs at the project
  • Train members on effective capacity-building practices and provide the tools and resources that members need throughout their service
  • Create an effective and supportive culture to get the most out of the member’s year of service
