AmeriCorps VISTA is a federal program that brings capacity building resources across the country in the form of dedicated individuals who choose to serve their community for one year, with the goal of ending generational poverty. We are an intermediary AmeriCorps VISTA sponsor, placing members in communities across the state.
As an intermediary host, we work with communities participating in our programs as well as other groups across the state to help grow capacity and create vibrant, prosperous communities.
At The Hub, we believe in the power of community service. We know the programs that are working to lift West Virginians out of poverty are worth investing in, and we believe that building capacity and sustainability in those programs is one of the most effective forms of investment in community growth and leadership development.
AmeriCorpsVISTA connects communities (through nonprofit organizations, faith-based organizations and municipal governments) to these capacity building resources at a low cost to the community with a high return.
AmeriCorps members who serve in The Hub’s VISTA program commit to one year of service with a nonprofit or government entity, serving full time to build a program’s capacity and sustainability. Members are paid via living stipend from AmeriCorps and become eligible to receive an education award or cash stipend upon completion of service.
Last year, our members recruited and managed over 1,000 volunteers across the state to serve over 4,000 hours in projects ranging from planting and garden maintenance in Morgantown, to grocery delivery for community members in need in Boone County, to participating in the formation of a statewide community development network. They collectively leveraged hundreds of thousands of dollars across communities in WV.

The Hub’s former VISTAs held crucial roles in creating momentum towards positive change in WV.
This week, we’re celebrating The Hub’s current and former VISTAs who are dedicating a year (or more!) to serving their communities.
