To be held April 23 through 29, Active Week West Virginia is a week in which businesses, organizations, schools, communities and other groups across the state will host events and activities that promote physical activity.
Our hope is that this week can be a statewide campaign, shared by everyone with skin in the physical activity and public health game.
So in the next few weeks I’m going to be highlighting events in each region of the state. Last week I shared details about events happening in North Central West Virginia, so this week I’ll be focusing on the southern part of the state.
What’s Happening in South Western & South Eastern WV
South Western West Virginia covers: Cabell, Putnam, Kanawha, Boone, Logan, Mingo, Wayne, and Lincoln counties.
South Eastern West Virginia covers: Nicholas, Webster, Pocahontas, Greenbrier, Monroe, Summers, Mercer, McDowell, Wyoming, Raleigh, and Fayette counties.
Currently, we have 29 events happening in Southern West Virginia during Active Week WV, ranging from dog walking groups to an Irish road bowling tournament. There’s something for all skill and fitness levels. Most are free, and some are kid and pet friendly.
I encourage you to go to activeweekwv.com and pick out your favorite activity to engage with, one you’ve never tried, and one you can take a friend or family member along to.
When you participate, don’t forget to share it with us using #ActiveWeekWV
Featured Activity
Our #ActiveWeekWV featured activity is the Beckley City Wide Fun Walk/Run happening 4/29 at the YMCA Soccer Complex hosted by Active Southern West Virginia & Beckley-Stratton Middle School, in participation with Action for Healthy Kids Every Kid Healthy Week.

We’d love to one day soon have events in every county!
So, if you know of any events happening that we don’t have listed on our website, or would like to plan an event in your county, please fill out this form.
If you have questions about any of the events, feel free to contact me at c.roark@wvhub.org
We are having a hard time finding activities happening in the Northern Panhandle (Hancock, Brooke, Ohio, Marshall, Wetzel, and Tyler counties) and in the Eastern Panhandle (Pendleton, Grant, Mineral, Hampshire, Morgan, Berkeley, Jefferson, and Hardy counties).
We know there are great people being physically active there, but we are not connected to them! Can you help us out? Share this info with people you know in those counties so we can promote more events happening in those areas.
Happy moving!
