BY CARLEE LAMMERS FOR THE PUTNAM REVIEW
Hurricane might be hours from New York City, but a local couple has worked to bring one of their favorite concepts from the Big Apple to Putnam County.
Leah and Thor Meeks recently opened The Putnam Market, a New York-style retail market featuring fresh flowers and arrangements, fine goods and gifts, provisions, and more.
“We’ve always wanted to have something like this. Ever since living here, we’ve dreamed of having a market. Thor loves all things culinary and cooking, and I love flowers and gifting and entertaining,” she said. “This is both of our passions mixing together.”
The couple lived in Manhattan for a year while Leah worked toward a master’s degree in fashion merchandising. They knew they wanted to come back to West Virginia, she said, so they shifted gears a little.
“We kind of got used to the lifestyle of going places and being able to pick out fresh flowers, stuff to cook dinner, a coffee and picking up a gift for a friend. All in one place,” she said. “We wanted to create a one-stop shop to have all of those things.”
The Putnam Market officially opened its doors Oct. 11…
