Earlier this year, Lifetime announced they would be launching a series called Her America, which records stories from women in order to share their unique experiences, and to connect to others across the country.
We are so excited to hear that one of The Hub’s heros, Wilma Steele, was recently chosen to share her story and her experience in West Virginia. Wilma has been pushing for positive change in the town of Matewan, serves on the board of the Mine Wars Museum, and is a core member of The Hub’s Communities of Achievement Program in Matewan.
The series was produced and recorded by a team of over 20 women, and had the goal of “amplifying the voices that go unheard and unrecognized.”
We are fortunate to partner with such amazing change-makers across West Virginia like Wilma! Stories like Wilma’s serve to break down the negative narratives about West Virginia at the national level, and we all benefit as a result.
