Does your organization want to start an AmeriCorps program? Volunteer West Virginia, is now accepting applications for 2018-19 AmeriCorps program funding.
Now, more than ever, West Virginia organizations could use an extra set of hands. National Service programs like AmeriCorps could be a great fit!
Nonprofits, educational institutions, and state and local government agencies are encouraged to apply to receive funding to develop an AmeriCorps program.
Through this funding process, Volunteer West Virginia seeks to expand National Service opportunities in after-school and children’s programming, and programs located in the Southern Coalfields, especially Logan, Boone, Lincoln, and Mingo Counties, and in north central West Virginia.
West Virginia ranks third in the Nation for producing AmeriCorps volunteers.
Each year over 1,100 individuals serve as AmeriCorps members in the state. Many AmeriCorps volunteers serve in their hometowns, while others come from across the country to make West Virginia their home for the year. AmeriCorps members change lives through mentoring, increase access to healthy and local food, preserve historic properties, and more.
AmeriCorps programs do more than move West Virginia communities forward; they help AmeriCorps members develop careers and provide pathways to opportunity for young people entering the workforce. In exchange for a year of service, volunteers receive a living-allowance, money for school, and work experience.
