
Students received special instruction while kayaking, paddle boarding and hiking
The Adventure Tourism class at Boone Career and Technical Center chose to kiss summer goodbye with a day of kayaking, paddle boarding and hiking. The trip was a great opportunity to let the students know what the lake looks like during its winter pool. The students enjoyed the best in paddle-board and kayak instruction by experts from the Boone and Summersville areas.
A total of 27 students from the Career Center paddled their boards all over the Battle Run section of the lake until they were ready for lunch. While eating, the students received inspiring talks from Dennis Stottlemeyer from the West Virginia Department of Environmental Protection. Dennis spoke of 800 different jobs offered through the D.E.P. and commended the students on their efforts with cleaning up the streams and their adopted highway – Route 3, which goes by their school. He spoke of efforts to create fish habitat in Summersville and in the Coal River watershed…
